ABOUT US
The Eastside Water Management Area (EWMA) was formed in May 2018 for the purpose of developing a Management Area Plan (MAP) to comply with the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act requiring overdraft basins achieve sustainability by 2040.
The EWMA is comprised of 46 landowners with over 38,000 acres. The EWMA is a non-contiguous area and is generally bounded by the Kern County boundary in the north, the Kern River in the south, Highway 65 in the west, and the California Department of Water Resources’ (DWR) bulletin 118 groundwater boundary on the east (see the below map).
The EWMA is a non-profit organization, governed by a 7-member Board, and is an associate member of the Kern Groundwater Authority Groundwater Sustainability Agency (KGA).
The EWMA’s MAP was submitted to DWR by the January 31, 2020 regulatory deadline as part of the Kern County coordinated Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP) and DWR has two years to review the plans. February 2020 began the implementation phase of the GSPs and the EWMA has set up its groundwater levels and quality network and is working on project to better understand the aquifers and hydrology of its member area.
MEETINGS
The EWMA Board meetings are held at 8 a.m. on the third Thursday of each month. For more information on Board meetings, please send inquires to TBlakslee@hgcpm.com.
